It was my intention to create a chain of serviced apartments throughout rural NSW. I established Bryces Pty Ltd and got DA approval for eight apartments on a beautiful 8,000 square metre parcel of land on Little Bloomfield Street in Gunnedah NSW.
I appeared on Shark Tank in 2015 pitching my idea for the chain. Funding wasn’t forthcoming, but a developer approached me who owned nine apartments in Scone NSW, which is convenient to Gunnedah. Bryces bought that business, and my partner and I four of the apartments.
Since purchasing Portman House improvements have been made and turnover has more than doubled. Portman House is the preferred place to stay for business people overnighting in Scone, horse capital of Australia. The company still holds the land in Gunnedah, which will likely be developed one day.
Erin does a wonderful job managing Portman House on a day to day basis, which freed up time for me to establish a second business in Sydney.
Expansion plans for the apartment business were put on hold and I established a Mortgage Broking firm called Funded, which provides me good income and absolute flexibility. I get a great sense of achievement helping customers buy property, and negotiate better home loan deals on their existing finance.
Prior to all this, I worked in customer service in airlines and hotels for about thirty years all up. During that time I wrote a few books, did a property development at Baulkham Hills in Sydney’s west, and bought my dream apartment in Potts Point, which I sadly had to sell to fund the apartment business.
My partner and I have a cute little terrace in St Peters, in Sydney’s inner west that we are about to renovate. We love travelling and try and squeeze in as many trips as we possibly can. Our beloved rescue cat, Pussy Cat, keeps us laughing and provides great company for me working from home.
If you have any questions about anything whatsoever please ask. I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards
